India’s dashing wicket-keeper batter Rishabh Pant has overtaken legendary Australian wicket-keeper batter Adam Gilchrist to break into the top three of the all-time list of leading six-hitters in Test cricket. Pant now sits in third place with 102 sixes, ahead of Gilchrist, who is in fourth place with 100 sixes.
Pant achieved this feat on Day 2 of the SL vs IND 2nd Test at the SSC in Colombo. He took on Lahiru Kumara’s short-pitched delivery and pulled it over fine leg for a gigantic six that went out of the ground. He didn’t stop there, hitting another six off Prabath Jayasuriya. Pant charged down the track and sent the ball over the boundary through the deep mid-wicket region.
With 102 sixes, Pant is behind only New Zealand’s Brendon McCullum (107) and England’s Ben Stokes (138), who occupy the top two spots on the all-time list of leading six-hitters in Test cricket.
What makes Pant’s achievement even more special is that he has scored more than 100 sixes in just 52 Test matches, averaging close to two sixes per game. If he continues at this pace, he could potentially become the all-time leading six-hitter in Test cricket. Currently, he requires 37 more sixes to surpass Ben Stokes’ record of 138 sixes.
Rishabh Pant Ends His Knock at 63 on Day 2
Rishabh Pant, who walked off the field on Day 1 of the SL vs IND 2nd Test after being hit on the wrist by a Lahiru Kumara bouncer, returned on Day 2 with positive intent and made a strong statement with an excellent 63 off 89 balls, including six fours and two sixes.
Later in the day, India declared at 503/9, following an impressive unbeaten century from Dhruv Jurel (115*).
