Chad Laycock has become the first bowler to take five wickets in an over in South African T20 cricket.

Laycock achieved this feat during the CSA Pro20 Cup on Tuesday. Representing KwaZulu-Natal Inland, he created a unique record by taking five wickets in the 19th over of the innings against the Titans.

He dismissed Leus du Plooy off the first ball of the 19th over before removing Dayyaan Galiem, Aphiwe Mnyanda, Janco Smit, and Esosa Aihevba on the third, fourth, fifth, and sixth balls, respectively.

The right-arm fast bowler had earlier dismissed swashbuckling young batter Lhuan-dre Pretorius for 81. Following an exceptional bowling display, Laycock finished with figures of 6/26. With this performance, he also registered the best bowling figures in the history of the CSA Pro20 Cup.

However, his inspirational bowling performance was not enough to secure a victory for KwaZulu-Natal Inland, who fell 21 runs short while chasing a target of 204.

Laycock has also entered the record books as the fourth bowler to take five wickets in an over in men’s T20 cricket. Bangladesh’s Al-Amin Hossain, India’s Abhimanyu Mithun, and Indonesia’s Gede Priandana are the other bowlers to have achieved this remarkable feat.

Al-Amin Hossain achieved the milestone in domestic T20 cricket in 2013, followed by Abhimanyu Mithun in 2019. Gede Priandana became the first bowler to take five wickets in an over in a T20 International when he achieved the feat against Cambodia in 2025.
