The Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) has announced the 26-member probable list for the upcoming Ranji Trophy 2026-27 season, which kicks off on October 11.

KL Rahul, Prasidh Krishna, and Devdutt Padikkal Won’t Be Available for the Full Season
KL Rahul and Prasidh Krishna are part of India’s ODI squad for the three-match series against the West Indies, which will be played from September 27 to October 3. Although the series does not coincide with Karnataka’s initial Ranji matches, both players’ availability will be at the discretion of the BCCI, which will take the final call considering their workload. Both players are regular members of India’s ODI and Test squads, with the national team set to play a packed schedule over the next few months.
Devdutt Padikkal is currently leading India A against Australia A in the two-match unofficial Test series at home. He has also been named vice-captain of the India A 50-over squad, which will play a three-match unofficial ODI series from October 6 to 11.
With Karnataka scheduled to play their opening fixture against Andhra from October 11, Padikkal will miss the game in Vijayawada. He will, however, be available for the home game against Saurashtra at Alur, which will be played from October 18 to 21.
With India scheduled to play a two-match Test series against New Zealand away from home from November 19, Padikkal might feature in one or two matches during the first leg of the Ranji Trophy for Karnataka.
His availability for the latter half of the competition could also be doubtful, as he is expected to be part of India’s Test squad for the five-match home Test series against Australia, which begins on January 21, 2027.
Who Will Captain Karnataka in the Absence of Devdutt Padikkal?
The Karnataka selectors decided to hand over the captaincy to Devdutt Padikkal last season, replacing Mayank Agarwal. Padikkal subsequently led the team to the Ranji Trophy final, where Karnataka finished runners-up after conceding the first-innings lead to Jammu & Kashmir.
With Padikkal likely to be away on national duty for a significant part of the upcoming season, the selectors could once again turn to Mayank Agarwal to take up the captaincy responsibilities.
Karun Nair, another senior member of the squad, could also be considered for the role.
